Tibetan Brass Shakti Yab Yum Plaque Mount Early 20th Century. Most likely was originally attached to a cabinet or mounted on to some object.
It measures 4 1/8” square and is thick brass. There are animals along the perimeter in raised relief.
This brass plaque or mount features what is known as “Shakti” or “Yab Yum”. It depicts the primordial union of wisdom and compassion. It’s origin is found in the Anuttarayoga Tantra of Vajrayana Buddhism.
The male deity represents the attribute of compassion and the female deity represents the attribute of wisdom. They are locked in sensual embrace with the female deity wrapped around him.
